SCI Rwanda Country Office seeks to hire qualified, committed and experienced nationals to fill the following positions for an anticipated USAID-funded Integrated Nutrition and WASH project in Rwanda.

USAID/Rwanda is exploring the development of a new nutrition/water, sanitation, and hygiene integrated activity with the anticipated goal of addressing chronic malnutrition in Rwanda through social and behavior change approaches. This new activity is likely to include the promotion of exclusive breastfeeding, optimal complementary feeding, hand-washing at critical moments, the application of water treatment technologies at the household level, and other behaviors and practices that support optimal child growth and development.  This project will seek to align itself with the Government of Rwanda's Community-Based Nutrition Program and its Community-Based Environmental Health Promotion Program. Additionally, it may also work to support district governments in the implementation of District Plans for the Elimination of Malnutrition.


Reporting to the Chief of Party, the Social Behavior Change Advisor will work closely and collaboratively with the senior project team and will be primarily responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring strategic approaches for social and behavioural change in health and nutrition across the program.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
    Provide the strategic vision for social and behavior change linked to improved nutrition, sanitation, and hygiene outcomes;
    Oversee and coordinate formative research (as needed) to guide strategic program choices for communications approaches and tools for social and behavior change tied to improved nutrition, sanitation, and hygiene outcomes;
    Lead the development and oversee the implementation of the project’s social and behavior change strategy for improved nutrition, sanitation, and hygiene practices;
    With USAID and key stakeholders, lead the development and implementation of strategic approaches and a communications plan for the project;
    Develop and help track critical metrics for behavior change;
    Contribute to and oversee development of materials, including training curricula;
    Advise on communications strategy, approaches, and methods.

    Master’s degree in communications, health education and/or communication; public health, nutrition, or other relevant social sciences including anthropology and sociology;
    Minimum of 5 years of experience in social and behavior change strategy development and implementation, and monitoring and evaluation of social and behavior change interventions, preferably in the field of health or nutrition;
    Demonstrated success in applying behavior change theory and approaches in applied field settings;
    Familiarity with principles and approaches in the domain of community mobilization;
    Demonstrated experience managing the design and production of communications materials, including creative brief development and pre-testing;
    Excellent written and verbal English language skills;
    History of engagement with USAID-funded initiatives is highly desirable;
    Experience with the design and implementation of qualitative research a plus;
    Experience in radio, print and/or television media promotion a plus;
    Experience and familiarity with gender a plus.
