Job Description

We are seeking a dynamic personality that thrives on numbers and quantitative analysis coupled with a can-do attitude and willingness to work for social good. The person will have humor and gravitas – s/he will lead team development and projects, and work with a lot of super-sharp, and like-minded professionals on One Acre Fund’s M&E team across the region. Key goals for this role include increasing the organization’s ability to analyze and derive insights from data, assisting One Acre Fund M&E teams on improving the rigor and reliability of trial design and analysis, and supporting global evaluation projects which lead to actionable insights.

Responsibilities include:

Quantitative project management
  • The candidate will work with M&E leads in each of our country offices to ensure that survey design, method selection and especially end analysis is sound, supportable, actionable and interpretable.
  • The ideal person will be able to mentor and guide small teams on project execution; you will lead by example.

Training and skill development
  • You are the technical guru for the M&E department; others will consult and you’ll provide sage guidance and actionable recommendations to evaluation and analysis problems, from how to select a survey sample to what model is appropriate for analysis
  • You will also be responsible for designing and conducting group trainings on Stata and applied statistics concepts.  The ideal person will be engaging, dynamic and work to meet each staff person at their particular level of understanding.

Key support on global M&E projects
  • You will be the technical lead on cross-country evaluation projects including assessing the secondary impacts of our core program, the soil health of our farmers and how impact differs among different segments of our population.
  • This work will require you travel to various country offices to support their implementation, lead the analysis and work on project design.
  • Synthesize analyses and learnings across departments and countries.
  • You will work as a liaison with other departments, like Product and Scale Innovations, to support their work as it relates to M&E goals of proving and improving our impact.
  • You will provide technical expertise on interpretation of data and work to suggest ways to streamline and standardize data collection efforts across countries.

Your work will be fast-paced, exciting, and diverse. You will create lasting and noticeable impact for hundreds of thousands of small-holder farmers and you’ll have fun doing it. You’ll work across countries providing analytic support, so you will definitely get out of the office, meet with our client farmers and see Eastern and Southern Africa. But most importantly, you’ll always be driving towards actionable impact – no empty reports, no mundane policy memos, just high-quality research, analysis, tools, and results!

  •     A willingness to commit to living in East Africa for at least two years preferable – this is a long–term, career–track role. The ideal candidate will have had experience working in the developing world, although this is not a strict requirement.
  •     Language: English required; French and or Kiswahili highly desirable
