POSITION TITLE: Editorial Manager - Rwanda


Job Description
The Editorial Manager will oversee implementation of strategies and operations in product development and acquisition of IP rights in the subsidiaries in order to achieve the set production targets for desired company sales performance.

Specific duties and responsibilities will entail:
 Track curriculum developments and demand trends in all segments.
 Propose customisation or adaptations of existing publications.
 Identify and assist existing and new authors to keep abreast of market requirements.
 Conduct targeted sales and information seminars for teachers.
 Assist the sales and marketing staff in demand creation and satisfaction.
 Budget preparation for resource allocation in the subsidiary.
 Establishing the source of copyrighted materials and preparing acknowledgment for illustrations and text used to fulfil acquisition requirements.
 Coordinating development and designing books and materials to create attractive products.
 Developing and sustaining product extension programmes to add value to new and existing products.
 Monitoring sales volumes so as to determine re-order levels.
 Preparing project proposals for presentation to the editorial committee.
 Coordinating preparation of new book information and other relevant materials for use by the sales and marketing team and participating in publicity activities for creative works and general publications.
 Identifying new markets for products in the subsidiary and developing the required materials within the approved timelines.
 Supervising and allocating duties to editors in liaison with the Head of Publishing.
 Ensuring all products in the section are copy edited and proofread accurately to reflect desired quality.
 Ensuring that products follow the company’s house style.
 Ensuring that projects are completed within the set deadlines.
 You shall be a member of the research committee with a view to ensuring new products are market driven.
 Working with the Head of Publishing to ensure optimum
resource allocation for the subsidiary.
 Working with the Chief Digital Officer and e-Learning Coordinator in preparation for content for the two functions.
 Working with the Head of Publishing to ensure subsidiary and export markets product needs are met.

(b) Job Specifications
For appointment to the position of Editorial Manager, a candidate must have:
 Degree in Education in any teaching subject area, or a degree in Publishing and Information Science
 Three (3) years’ of editorial experience in the book publishing industry.
 Working knowledge of online publishing is highly recommended.
 Teaching experience with a record of consistent performance will be an added advantage
 Excellent writing, communication, negotiation and leadership skills
