Junior Civil Engineers

Hydro Operation Great Lakes is a subsidiary of Hydro Operation International, a Swiss company active in the development, engineering, operation and maintenance of hydroelectric power plants in Africa. We have just opened our office in Kigali, from which we offer our services in Rwanda and the Great Lakes region.

To support our growth, we are currently looking for Junior Civil Engineers to strengthen our team in Kigali. This position will report to the Senior Engineer. The suitable candidate for this job is expected to learn and grow with the company into a senior engineering position.

Key tasks and responsibilities:
·         Perform civil engineering calculations under the supervision of a Senior engineer or Technical Director
·         Calculate Bill of Quantities
·         Write technical reports
·         Make technical drawings
·         Site supervision and management of construction sites
·         Perform flow measurements on rivers and do site surveys

Required attitudes:
·         Interest in civil engineering and the energy sector
·         Willingness and ability to learn a lot and ambition to grow into a Senior Engineering position
·         Pragmatic, hands on mentality
·         Good organizational skills
·         Attention to detail
·         Ability to work under pressure
·         No nine to five mentality
·         Willingness to work in a startup company where flexibility is required
·         Excellent team player

·         A0 diploma (bachelor) in civil engineering or A1 and equivalent through experience
·         3 to 5 years of experience as an Engineer
·         Excellent knowledge of CAD software (AUTOCAD, Geomensura, ArchiCAD,…)
·         Capacity and experience with dimensioning of simple structures in reinforced concrete 
·         Good knowledge of Rwandan legislation regarding civil works and construction.
·         Excellent oral and written command of Kinyarwanda and English. Swahili and/or French are assets
·         Excellent Computer skills (Word and Excel is a minimum)
·         Good knowledge of civil engineering software is an asset
·         Knowledge of topographic surveys and/or GIS is an asset
·         Knowledge of programmable logic controllers (PLCs) is an asset
·         A driving license is an asset
·         Experience working for an international company or organization is an asset
