Project Background
Private Sector Driven Agricultural Growth (PSDAG) is a five-year (August 2014- August 2019) US Agency for International Development (USAID) funded initiative implemented by International Resources Group (IRG) with the aim of increasing smallholder incomes by promoting private sector investment. PSDAG has two primary complementary objectives:  (1) To assist the Government of Rwanda to increase private sector investment, and (2) To facilitate increased private sector investment by upgrading agricultural value chains.

USAID Private Sector Driven Agricultural Growth (PSDAG) Project would like to recruit qualified candidate for the position of Accounting Assistant for a period of around 3 months.

The Accounting Assistant supports the Accounting Manager in the financial and accounting management of the project, in accordance with the approved rules and procedures. She/he also manages PSDAG cash on hand and works under the direct supervision of the Accounting Manager.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare payment vouchers, checks or transfer orders.
  • Distribute checks to vendors and deposit transfer orders to the bank;
  • Ensure completeness of supporting documents before processing payment;
  • Regularly scan accounting supporting documents;
  • Ensure proper filing of accounting documents on monthly basis;
  • Support program staff in preparation of activity budgets;
  • Receive travel authorizations and prepare the payments of travel advances /perdiem for the staff, undertaking field trips.
  • Process in a timely manner the clearance of the travel advances. Ensure all travel expenses are supported with appropriate documents including trip report and the copy of travel authorization;
  • Make booking entries using the QuickBooks software after obtaining all required approvals.
  • Manage the project petty cash according to approved procedures:
  • Disbursement of cash advances after checking that all required approvals have been obtained;
  • Prepare the advance justification upon receipt of the supporting documents;
  • Assist in the processing of vouchers and other cash management tools;
  • Transmit the supporting documentation to the Chief Accounting for review;
  • Make booking entries of cash vouchers using QuickBooks software after receipt of approvals;
  • Perform any other related duties as requested by the supervisor or the Director of Finance, Operations and Compliance.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance;
  • 3years’ work experience as accountant for an international organization;
  • Knowledge of accounting management procedures and tools;
  • Good knowledge of office Management software (Excel, MS Word, Outlook, etc.) and accounting software (QuickBooks);
  • Strong Analytical and organizational skills;
  • Communication skills in English (reading/writing)is required;
  • Good organizational skills; able to work with a light supervision;
  • Past experience with USAID funded projects would be an added asset.
